Police on Saturday arrested Trinamool Congress councillor Nirmal Yadav of Ward No. 4 of Uluberia Municipality in connection with allegations linked to the 2021 post-poll violence following the West Bengal Assembly elections. He faces allegations including vandalism of BJP workers' homes, physical assault, sexual harassment, intimidation of political opponents, and other related offences. Police arrested him from his in-laws' residence in Fuleswar.
According to the allegations, Nirmal Yadav's name had surfaced in connection with incidents that took place during the period of post-election unrest in 2021. Investigators are examining complaints alleging that BJP workers were threatened and assaulted during that period. Following the change in government in West Bengal, several cases related to post-poll violence have reportedly been reopened, leading to renewed investigations.
Apart from the violence-related allegations, Nirmal Yadav has also been accused of misappropriating relief materials.
