Notorious criminal Mohammad Haider was killed during a police encounter in Patna's Masaurhi area after allegedly opening fire on a police team conducting a rescue operation on Friday evening. Two police officers, including Additional Station House Officer Rahul Kumar and ASI Sanjay Kumar, sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire. Both officers were admitted to AIIMS Patna and are reported to be out of danger. Police also rescued a kidnapped youth during the operation.
According to East Patna SP Parichay Kumar, police received information that a young man had been lured to Manichak village under the pretext of a mobile phone transaction through an online app. The victim was allegedly taken hostage by a group of six criminals, assaulted, and robbed of money. Police launched a rescue operation after receiving information that the accused were allegedly planning to kill the victim.
As the police team reached the location, the accused allegedly opened heavy fire. During the encounter, Rahul Kumar sustained a bullet injury to his leg, while ASI Sanjay Kumar suffered a gunshot wound to his hand. Police retaliated, forcing the accused to flee. The kidnapped youth was rescued safely from the spot. Investigators have identified all six accused allegedly involved in the incident and have launched raids to arrest the remaining suspects.
Mohammad Haider was injured in the retaliatory police firing and was subsequently taken for medical treatment. According to police, he was moved through Punpun Primary Health Centre, PMCH, Max Hospital, and later towards Paras Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police records indicate that Haider had previously been arrested in a murder case by Masaurhi Police and had been released on bail a few months ago.
