Bengal govt launches ‘Apnar Sarkar, Apnar Pashe’ portal for welfare and public service complaints
The Trinamool Congress has appointed Kaliganj MLA Alifa Ahmed as the new President of the Women's Trinamool Congress, replacing veteran leader and MP Mala Roy. The decision was communicated through an official letter issued by State President Chandrima Bhattacharya and comes amid ongoing organisational changes within the party following recent political developments.
Mala Roy had been serving as President of the Women's Trinamool Congress after Chandrima Bhattacharya was elevated to the position of State President. Roy, who is also a Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, held the responsibility during a significant period for the party. According to party sources, she recently stepped down from the post, and reports indicated that she had submitted her resignation on June 8.
Alifa Ahmed, the MLA from Kaliganj, has now been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the party's women's wing. Party leaders view her appointment as recognition of her electoral performance. After securing victory in a by-election in 2024, she retained her seat in the 2026 Assembly election and continued her political responsibilities in the constituency.
The appointment was formally conveyed by Chandrima Bhattacharya on Friday. The development was subsequently shared publicly by Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra. The change forms part of a broader organisational reshuffle undertaken by the party leadership as it reviews key positions within its structure following recent internal developments.
Following her appointment, Alifa Ahmed released a video message expressing gratitude to party chief Mamata Banerjee, State President Chandrima Bhattacharya, and senior party leaders. She thanked the people of Kaliganj for their support and stated that her new responsibility would allow her to work for women across the state. She also appealed to party members to work together and strengthen organisational unity during the current period.
