Commercial flight operations begin at Noida International Airport in Jewar

Commercial flight operations commenced at Noida International Airport in Jewar on Monday, marking a significant milestone in India's aviation infrastructure expansion. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated operations at the airport, which is expected to serve as a major aviation hub for the National Capital Region. The first scheduled IndiGo flight arrived from Lucknow before continuing its onward journey to Bengaluru.

The inaugural scheduled flight, 6E-2278, landed at the airport after departing from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. Following its arrival in Jewar, the aircraft departed for Bengaluru, marking the beginning of regular commercial operations at the new airport. The launch of services represents the operational opening of the airport's first phase.

As part of the inauguration programme, around 170 farmers from the Jewar region, including 20 women, travelled on a special flight to Lucknow. The farmers had contributed land for the airport project and were scheduled to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The delegation was led by Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh and participated in the event as recognition of their role in the project's development.

Noida International Airport has been developed as the second international airport serving the Delhi-NCR region and is expected to complement operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The facility is positioned as a major international gateway for the region and is designed to strengthen domestic and international connectivity while supporting future growth in air traffic.

The first phase of the airport has been developed at an investment of approximately ₹11,200 crore under the Public-Private Partnership model. The airport features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft and is equipped with modern navigation infrastructure, including an Instrument Landing System and advanced airfield lighting systems designed to support all-weather and round-the-clock operations.
