"42 industrialists likely to invest in Bengal, discussions ongoing," says Tapas Roy ahead of Budget
Speculation surrounding the casting of the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD intensified after reports claimed that Alia Bhatt had joined the project and had already filmed scenes in Hyderabad. The rumours sparked widespread discussion among fans, particularly amid uncertainty over who would replace Deepika Padukone following her departure from the film franchise. However, the production team has clarified that there is currently no official confirmation regarding Alia Bhatt’s involvement in the sequel.
Reports circulating on social media suggested that Alia Bhatt had been cast in a major role in the film. While some claims indicated that she would replace Deepika Padukone's character Sumathi (SUM-80), others suggested that she had been brought in for an entirely new role. Additional reports alleged that the actor had already completed portions of filming, further fuelling speculation among audiences awaiting updates on the highly anticipated sequel.
Responding to the reports, a spokesperson associated with the film stated that no shooting involving Alia Bhatt had taken place. The spokesperson also said there was no official clarity regarding her casting and suggested that the speculation originated from unverified social media posts that were subsequently repeated across various platforms. The statement effectively dismissed claims that the actor had already joined the production or completed scenes for the film.
The uncertainty follows the previously announced exit of Deepika Padukone from the sequel. Production house Vyjayanthi Movies had earlier confirmed that Deepika would not return for the second instalment of the franchise. The company stated that both sides had mutually decided to part ways after being unable to find the level of partnership and commitment required for the project.
Since Deepika’s departure, speculation has continued regarding the casting of the character SUM-80. Earlier reports linked Sai Pallavi to the role, although no official announcement has been made. Meanwhile, filming on the sequel has resumed with Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan participating in production schedules, while Prabhas is yet to join the ongoing shoot.
