CM Suvendu sweeps Baghbazar ghat along with Tapas and Agnimitra

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari kicked off a major civic campaign on Wednesday morning by personally participating in a cleanliness drive along the banks of the Ganga. Arriving at North Kolkata’s historic Bagbazar Mayer Ghat at 7:00 AM, the Chief Minister underscored his administration's intense focus on public sanitation. Demonstrating a hands-on approach, Adhikari picked up a broom to sweep the litter off the concrete steps of the ghat, setting a direct example for the municipal corporations and citizens alike.

The morning event was more than a symbolic gesture, serving as the official launch of the state’s five-day "Welcome Cleanliness" campaign. Before clearing the waste on the riverbank, the Chief Minister led an environmental initiative by planting several tree saplings around the ghat to boost local green cover. Following the manual labor, Adhikari transitioned to a spiritual ritual, visiting the adjacent temple at the ghat to perform a traditional puja and seek blessings for the success of the state-wide cleanliness push.

The high-profile drive saw the active participation of prominent cabinet members and state leaders. State Ministers Agnimitra Paul and Tapas Roy stood alongside the Chief Minister, actively sweeping the premises and managing the sanitation staff. Smita Pandey, the Municipal Administrator of the Kolkata Municipality, explained that this extensive, coordinated sanitation effort will run across all prominent city markets, local temples, and major landmark hubs—including the historic Nakhoda Mosque—over the next few days to ensure the city looks its best.
