A major political controversy has erupted in West Bengal following the complete withdrawal of security details from the residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. On Wednesday night, her long-standing Personal Security Officers, who had protected her for nearly two decades, were abruptly relieved of their official duties. The police kiosk stationed outside her house now sits completely empty, drawing sharp criticism and safety concerns from her party members.
In the wake of this sudden development, Minister Agnimitra Paul made highly explosive allegations, claiming that the former Chief Minister faces a greater threat from within her own household than from outsiders. According to Paul, Mamata Banerjee is allegedly living in fear of her family members, referencing unspecified past incidents to suggest that her home environment is inherently unsafe. She emphasized that deciding whether to accept central or state government security remains entirely up to Banerjee.
Further sharpening her political attack, Paul accused Mamata Banerjee of severely mismanaging the state and pushing the citizens of Bengal to the absolute brink during her fifteen-year tenure. The minister criticized the elaborate security protocols, massive convoys, and barricades that previously surrounded Banerjee, arguing that the public would now judge her sudden decision to reject new security personnel as a political stunt.
