Angry mob vandalises TMC leader's house, sets fire over corruption allegations
Senior Trinamool Congress leader Jyotipriya Mallick announced his resignation from all party posts on Friday, citing health-related reasons. Mallick, popularly known as Balu, stated that he was no longer physically capable of carrying out party responsibilities due to serious medical conditions. His resignation comes less than a week after he was appointed as a member of the party's National Working Committee.
Explaining his decision, Mallick said that his blood sugar level had risen above 350 and that his kidney condition had deteriorated significantly. He stated that his current health condition was preventing him from actively participating in party activities and organizational responsibilities. According to him, the decision to resign was based solely on medical grounds and was not linked to any political development.
Jyotipriya Mallick has been associated with the Trinamool Congress since its formation in 1998 and has been one of the party's prominent leaders for more than two decades. Following the party's rise to power in West Bengal in 2011, he served as an MLA and held ministerial responsibilities in the state government. He was later arrested in connection with allegations related to the ration distribution case. After securing bail, his participation in party activities became less visible. In the 2026 Assembly elections, he contested from the Habra constituency on a Trinamool Congress ticket but was defeated.
