A catastrophic road accident unfolded at the Molla Gate intersection on Maheshtala-Budge Budge Trunk Road during a heavy downpour, leaving a pedestrian critically injured. The victim had sought temporary shelter from a severe ninety-minute rainstorm under the 109th pillar of the local flyover. As the entire city faced waterlogging and heavy showers, an unpredictable disaster struck the stranded commuter.
According to eyewitness accounts, a massive 18-wheel dumper truck was speeding towards Molla Gate from the Jinjira Bazar direction. Navigating the slick, rain-soaked road, the heavy vehicle suddenly lost control and careened off course. The truck violently crashed directly into the guard wall of the 109th pillar, pinning the helpless pedestrian who was standing right in its path.
The impact left the man on the ground in a severely bleeding state. Local residents rushed to the scene and immediately transported the screaming victim to a nearby private hospital. Due to the extreme nature of the impact trauma, medical professionals had to amputate one of his legs to save his life. As the condition of his other leg remains highly critical, he was swiftly shifted to a specialized hospital in Kolkata for advanced surgical intervention.
Following the horrific crash, tensions ran high in the area. Officers from the Maheshtala Jinjira Investigation Center arrived promptly at the accident site to restore order. The police authorities officially seized the rogue 18-wheel dumper truck and arrested the driver, who was taken to the police station for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
