Luxury bedroom, condoms found during Health Minister's inspection of Bidhannagar ward office

Chaos unfolded at the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation's Ward No. 35 office after State Health Minister Dr. Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay conducted an inspection following repeated public complaints about stalled civic work. The ward councillor, Joydeb Naskar, has reportedly been absent since the Assembly election results, leading to disruptions in development activities in the area. During the inspection, the Minister found the office furnished with expensive sofas and more than five air conditioners. Upon entering the councillor's chamber, he discovered that it had allegedly been converted into a bedroom equipped with a bed, velvet pillows and blankets instead of facilities intended for official work.

According to the information available, the Minister also found packets of condoms inside the drawers of a dressing table during the inspection. The findings prompted strong reactions, with questions being raised about the use of a government office maintained with public funds. Local residents expressed concern over the condition of the office and sought an explanation regarding its functioning while development work in the ward remained affected due to the councillor's prolonged absence.

Reacting to the inspection, Dr. Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay said he was initially unable to understand why a government office contained a bedroom and that the full situation became clear only after a detailed inspection of the premises. He expressed strong displeasure over the findings and stated that the matter was deeply disturbing. The incident has intensified political activity in the area, with residents demanding an impartial inquiry and raising questions regarding the role of the ward councillor in the functioning of the office.
