Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon', the highest honor bestowed by the Republic of Seychelles upon foreign dignitaries. The prestigious presidential award was presented to PM Modi during his three-day state visit to the island nation, recognizing his exceptional global leadership in environmental conservation, ocean governance, and advancing the sustainable "Blue Economy".
The award acknowledges PM Modi's long-standing diplomatic commitment to environmental protection and his geopolitical vision of balancing rapid economic progress with ecological sustainability. The honor heavily reflects India's growing and proactive role in fostering international cooperation regarding climate change resilience, renewable energy expansions, and green growth initiatives across the highly sensitive Indian Ocean Region.
This top distinction from Seychelles adds to a long list of international laurels celebrating PM Modi's contribution to environmental stewardship. Just recently, in May 2026, the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) presented him with the Agricola Medal for transforming agrarian infrastructure and promoting sustainable farming practices. Before that, he was awarded the Seoul Peace Prize and the UN's highest environmental honor, the Champions of the Earth Award, in 2018
