FIR against Aprarupa Poddar for pushing a cop during NIA raid
A temporary healthcare worker at the Chanchal Government Super Specialty Hospital in Malda sparked widespread tension and protests after allegedly cutting off the thumb of a three-month-old baby girl. The horrifying incident occurred while the contractual worker was attempting to remove or open a saline line attached to the infant. The victim's family, deeply traumatized by the severe medical negligence, has formally lodged a written criminal complaint against the accused worker at the Chanchal police station.
The infant had been brought to the government hospital for medical treatment by her parents, Mizanur Rahman and Najma Bibi, residents of the Kushida area under the Harishchandrapur police station jurisdiction. According to the family's account, the child was administered saline during her admission, which later became non-functional. When the on-duty temporary worker intervened to detach the line, they inadvertently severed the thumb of the child's left hand, leading to immediate profuse bleeding and a severe outcry from the relatives.
Following the initial mistake, the family alleged that the accused worker and his associates misbehaved with Najma Bibi and even attempted to physically assault her when she protested. The situation quickly escalated as angry relatives and local residents launched an intensive demonstration inside the hospital premises. Chanchal Super Specialty Hospital Superintendent Sumit Talukder rushed to the spot to pacify the crowd, confirming that the worker had been terminated immediately and that Malda Chief Health Officer Sudipta Bhaduri had ordered an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
