The Detective Department of the Kolkata Police executed a targeted raid in Gaya, Bihar, on Friday, resulting in the apprehension of a prime suspect linked to a multi-lakh bank fraud network. Acting on specific operational intelligence developed during an ongoing investigation, law enforcement officials arrested twenty-six-year-old Prashant Kumar Singh, a resident of Jaitiya village under the Cherki Police Station jurisdiction in Gaya. The successful interstate operation was carried out at approximately twelve forty hours on July three, marking a major breakthrough in a high-priority cyber financial crime case.
The arrest was made in connection with Shakespeare Sarani Police Station Case Number 213, dated December nineteen, 2024, registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery. According to investigators, the organized criminal network targeted unsuspecting victims through sophisticated vishing calls, which are fraudulent phone calls used to extract sensitive banking credentials. The perpetrators then manipulated the victims into installing malicious, counterfeit Application Package Kit (APK) files onto their mobile devices to gain unauthorized system access.
Through these deceptive digital channels, the accused individuals managed to siphon off a total of seventy-four lakh, thirty-three thousand, three hundred and sixty-seven rupees, causing severe wrongful financial loss to the victims. Following his apprehension in Bihar, local transit formalities were initiated by the visiting police team to facilitate his secure transfer. The tracking investigators confirmed that the accused will be formally produced before the Ld. Court in Kolkata tomorrow, where the police will seek active custody for further interrogation and network mapping.
