Mamata Banerjee takes out candle march demanding justice for Baruipur victim
Suvendu Adhikari, West Bengal CM, has honored the post-centenary silver jubilee of the birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee - prominent educationist, barrister, minister, and founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh - by including him in the school curriculum, going forward. The announcement was made at the prestigious Mitra Institution at Bhawanipur. Going forward, the state school curriculum will include lessons on Dr. Mookerjee's life, his contributions to education, his role in the creation of West Bengal, and his vision for the nation.
The initiative seems to be aimed at familiarizing students and the public with Mookerjee's contributions to education and the public service sector, his patriotism and contribution to the creation of West Bengal and the development of the University of Calcutta, and so on. He also served as India’s first Minister for Industry and Supply (1947-50), a role that is expected to feature prominently in the textbooks from the next academic session. Adhikari plans to bring this all to the limelight again - it is reported that he wants these topics to be taught, published, and widely discussed at all levels of education.
In addition to this, Adhikari also announced a grant of र25 lakh from the MLA Local Area Development Fund for the renovation of the school, adding that he has further directed the concerned departments to take steps to bring the school under the aegis of the Central Government's PM SHRI Scheme and the Atal Project. It is evident that these initiatives, alongside the grant, aim to preserve Mookerjee's legacy in the public minds for generations to come.
