India signs BrahMos missile pact with Indonesia; Modi conferred highest honour 'Bintang Adipurna'

India and Indonesia signed a major agreement on Tuesday for the supply of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Indonesian military during high-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta. Indonesia also finalised plans to procure India’s indigenous Astra Beyond-Visual-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (BVRAAM) and expand its existing BrahMos inventory with additional missile batteries. The deals mark a significant boost to defence cooperation between the two strategic partners under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The bilateral meeting yielded several key pacts spanning defence, maritime security, critical minerals, technology, and healthcare. The two nations agreed on a framework for maritime safety cooperation, including joint development of the strategically important Sabang Port near the Strait of Malacca. India will also support Indonesia with customised Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), invest in steel, nickel, and rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing, and enhance healthcare access through affordable medicines. It is evident that defence collaboration has become a cornerstone of India-Indonesia relations, building on joint military exercises and technology sharing. 

In sinilar news, PM Modi received Indonesia’s highest civilian and military honour, the Bintang Adipurna, from President Prabowo. Modi highlighted the growing trust between the nations, emphasising enhanced defence exchanges, disaster management, and industrial cooperation.
