Kolkata Police has issued a major traffic advisory announcing the complete closure of the Chingrighata Flyover to all vehicular movement over the upcoming weekend. The strict restriction is scheduled to go into effect starting from 20:00 hours on Friday, July 10, 2026, and will remain operational at a stretch until 08:00 hours on Monday, July 13, 2026. According to the official notification signed by the Commissioner of Police, Ajay Nand, the suspension of traffic is required in the interest of public safety and convenience to execute segment launching work for the Orange Line metro project undertaken by RVNL Ltd.
The standard traffic circulation pattern will be heavily altered during this period, forcing a mandatory diversion plan for daily commuters. As per the details outlined by the traffic department, all types of North-bound vehicles that normally avail the Chingrighata Flyover will be explicitly diverted from the Beliaghata Main Road and E M Bypass crossing towards Broadway. The infrastructural work specifically targets the area between span PP326 and PP327 at Biswa Bangla Sarani near Sukanta Nagar.
The administrative authorities have advised all regular commuters and weekend travelers to plan their journeys well in advance to avoid unexpected gridlocks. Drivers are strongly urged to utilize the specified alternative routes and coordinate their travel times around the closure window to avoid congestion near the construction zone. Normal traffic services on the flyover are expected to fully resume on Monday morning once the scheduled metro segment launching is safely concluded.
