Centre allocates funds for 1 lakh houses in Bengal under Awas Yojana, announces CM Suvendu
The Home & Hill Affairs Department of the Government of West Bengal has executed a massive administrative reshuffle affecting thirty-three senior police officers across the state. According to an official notification issued on July 14, 2026, the Governor approved the immediate transfers of various Indian Police Service (IPS) and West Bengal Police Service (WBPS) personnel in the interest of public service. The restructuring aims to optimize law enforcement operations across multiple key directorates, commissionerates, and district units.
A primary highlight of the reorganization is the shift in top-tier administrative roles within the state's investigative and intelligence arms. Supratim Sarkar, who previously held the dual portfolio of ADG & IGP, CID, West Bengal along with an additional charge of ADG, IB, Kolkata, has been officially moved to the position of ADG, Telecommunications, West Bengal. Concurrently, Tripurari Atharv, who served as the Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate in the rank of ADG, has been designated as the new ADG, Traffic & Road Safety, West Bengal. Rathod Amitkumar Bharat, previously the DIG of the Raiganj Range, has been elevated to take over as the new Bidhannagar CP in the rank of DIG.
The administrative restructuring also introduces significant changes to the district police configurations in northern West Bengal. Yeilwad Shrikant Jagannathrao, who was operating as the DC, DD, Kolkata, has been reassigned to function as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Darjeeling district. In addition, Manish Joshi, formerly serving as the DC, Traffic, Kolkata, has been designated to take command as the new SP of the Cooch Behar district. Other major transfers include Natarajan Ramesh Babu being assigned as the new DG & IGP, CID, West Bengal, alongside several structural adjustments at the additional superintendent level.
