'If needed, I will go to Delhi': Mamata Banerjee backs CJP protest, calls for opposition unity

Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday expressed support for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in Delhi and said she would personally participate if required. Addressing the July 21 Martyrs' Day programme, she said, "If need be, I will go to Delhi and take part in the protest. Our support to them was there from the beginning, and it will remain so." Referring to recent events in the national capital, she said democratic norms must be upheld and warned that her party would continue its movement if injustice and intimidation persisted.

Speaking at the rally, Mamata Banerjee said governments must function with discipline and within the framework of democracy. She alleged that fear and intimidation had become political tools and claimed her party's leaders and workers had faced repeated harassment. She also alleged that around 40,000 cases had been registered against Trinamool Congress workers and said many leaders had left the party out of fear of investigative agencies.

Mamata Banerjee also appealed for opposition unity, stating that she had "no personal ego or bitterness towards anyone" and that parties worked together as part of the INDIA alliance both nationally and in West Bengal. She also criticised rebel leaders who had left the Trinamool Congress, saying the truth would eventually come to light and that people would recognise who had remained with them during difficult times.
