The historic Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja in Central Kolkata's Central Avenue is set for a major identity shift after organizers renamed the venue to 'Mahabali Park'. Marking its 58th year, the Youth Association inaugurated the upcoming festivities on Wednesday with the traditional Khuti Puja ceremony, held amidst Vedic chanting and traditional dhak beats.
The inauguration event was attended by prominent figures, including State Minister Tapas Roy and MLA Vijay Ojha, alongside other city dignitaries. Organizers emphasized that the new name 'Mahabali' reflects rich Indian cultural and religious heritage, asserting that the annual festival will now be celebrated under this new name.
The sudden renaming has sparked widespread discussion across political and social circles in Kolkata. Despite the ongoing debates, organizers confirmed that preparations are moving ahead rapidly to deliver a grand Durga Puja celebration featuring unique pandal designs and decorations.
