'10 years jail, 10 crore fine' for leaking exam paper; Modi cabinet approves Amendment Bill
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out a raid at the residence and business premises of a Purulia-based businessman, Suraj Vishwakarma, early Friday morning. ED officials, accompanied by a large contingent of central security forces, arrived around 6:00 AM at his home and his establishment, 'Suraj Family Restaurant,' located in Parbeliya Bazar under Nituria police station limits. Central forces cordoned off the entire area while the raid was underway.
The raids were conducted in connection with a multinational bank fraud case. The businessman was present inside his residence during the operation, and central agency officials questioned him while conducting thorough searches across his properties.
This raid comes amid increased activity by the Enforcement Directorate across West Bengal in connection with various financial irregularities and corruption probes. Central investigation agencies have recently conducted searches in several districts, including Howrah, Nadia, and North 24 Parganas, as part of ongoing investigations into chit fund cases, municipal recruitment irregularities, and fraudulent schemes.
