Kunal Ghosh faces 'Breach of Privilage' notice in Assembly over disrespecting the Speaker's chair 

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shankar Ghosh brought a breach of privilege notice against Beleghata MLA Kunal Ghosh in the Assembly on Friday for allegedly disrespecting the Speaker's chair during proceedings over two consecutive days. Assembly Speaker Rathindra Ghosh officially accepted the notice, describing the recent conduct inside the house as highly condemnable. The action follows days of heightened political tension and disruptions on the Assembly floor between rival legislative groups.

The controversy escalated after Kunal Ghosh raised objections upon being denied time to speak despite his name having been submitted through standard channels. Following a scuffle on Wednesday, the Beleghata legislator was suspended from the session and escorted out of the chamber by marshals. Disruption continued on Thursday when the Speaker remarked that the previous day's events were "very shameful," triggering further strong protests from lawmakers who objected to the phrasing.

Responding to the privilege notice in the House, Kunal Ghosh expressed regret while clarifying that he had no intention to disrespect the Speaker's chair. He explained that his conduct was a symbolic protest against procedural issues regarding speech time allocation, despite directions from leadership. Speaker Rathindra Ghosh acknowledged the explanation, stating that internal factional complications would be resolved in due course through established legislative procedures.
