SSC removes Kalyan Banerjee ahead of crucial High Court hearing

The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has restructured its legal representation by removing senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee from handling its court proceedings. The decision was finalized late Thursday night, just before a key hearing at the Calcutta High Court regarding the commission's expired recruitment panels. Following this administrative change, Banerjee will no longer appear or plead on behalf of the commission in any pending or upcoming cases.

In his place, advocate Indranil Roy has been appointed as the lead counsel to represent the WBSSC across all legal matters, supported by advocate Sunit Roy as junior counsel. The newly designated legal team assumed charge immediately and presented arguments on Friday during the Calcutta High Court's hearing concerning expired recruitment panels.

The decision to overhaul the commission's legal panel was taken by IAS officer Dushmant Nariwala, who recently assumed charge as the new Chairman of the SSC while also serving as Resident Commissioner in Delhi. Although Banerjee had previously argued numerous high-profile recruitment scam cases for the WBSSC, his court appearances on behalf of the commission had ceased following recent elections. The commission's new legal panel will now handle all ongoing legal challenges related to teacher and staff recruitment drives.
