India's weightlifters Rishikanta Singh clinches Silver Medal at CWG 2026

Indian weightlifter Rishikanta Singh delivered a record-breaking performance to secure India's first silver medal in the men's 60kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026. He created a CWG record by lifting 121kg in the snatch discipline, matched by Malaysia's Aniq Kasdan. Both weightlifters progressed synchronously in snatch, successfully lifting 116kg on their first attempts, 119kg on their second, and topping off at 121kg to rewrite the record books.

The contest intensified during the clean and jerk section, where Rishikanta successfully completed his first lift of 143kg. However, Kasdan pulled ahead with an opening lift of 145kg, followed by successful attempts of 149kg and 152kg. Rishikanta was unable to complete his second attempt of 148kg, leaving him in a position where he needed a final lift of 153kg to surpass Kasdan’s cumulative total of 273kg.

Rishikanta could not complete the final lift and finished the competition with a total score of 264kg (121kg in snatch and 143kg in clean and jerk) to take home the silver medal. Kasdan claimed the gold medal with a CWG record total lift of 273kg, while Kenya's Joshua Amunga Mboya won the bronze medal by lifting a overall total of 260kg.
