Massive Tiranga yatra from Sealdah and Golpark against Dharmtala violence; Traffic running slow
In a strong demonstration of protest against violent attacks on media personnel, journalists, reporters, and photojournalists took to the streets at Kolkata’s busy Dharmatala intersection on Monday. Media professionals staged a road blockade, halting traffic at the heart of the city to condemn the assault, harassment, and destruction of camera equipment that took place during a recent demonstration over the NEET exam controversy.
The protest follows severe incidents of violence where several field reporters and video journalists covering the demonstration were heckled, physically assaulted, and targeted by an unruly section of the crowd.
Demonstrating media workers raised slogans demanding immediate justice, press freedom, and stringently enforced security guarantees for on-duty journalists who face life-threatening risks while reporting from volatile protest sites.
