CJP warns of launching a nationwide protest over continued police action against students

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) threatened to resume its nationwide protest campaign, alleging that the BJP-led central government has breached the terms of their July 25 peace agreement. At a joint press conference in New Delhi alongside Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal, the CJP accused law enforcement agencies of continuing arrests, surveillance, and police actions against protesting students despite assurances of immunity. The confrontation comes just days after the CJP suspended its 49-day demonstration following the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Spokespersons for the CJP stated that the July 25 accord included explicit commitments to immediately withdraw all existing FIRs, halt fresh cases, provide compensation to families of NEET paper leak-related suicide victims, and consider their five-point examination reform charter. However, the group alleged that state police forces in Bihar, Bengal, and Assam have continued detaining volunteers and charging protesters with severe offenses. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das issued a 24-hour deadline demanding a written copy of the agreed commitments, warning that the organization would mobilize fresh demonstrations if the government fails to comply.

To counter the crackdown, the CJP launched 'Saakshi', an online platform designed to document police action against student activists. Pledging his support, Kapil Sibal announced a personal contribution of ₹1 crore to establish a dedicated legal assistance fund and website for affected protesters. Sibal also criticized law enforcement agencies for using facial recognition technology against young demonstrators, while the Supreme Court separately reiterated that peaceful protest remains a constitutionally protected right that cannot be met with excessive force.
