DCI recommends to reduce BDS seats in Kolkata Dental College by 50%

Since the R Ahmed Dental College and Hospital in Kolkata does not have adequate infrastructure, the Dental Council of India has recommended a 50% reduction in the number of BDS seats in the school. The DCI took such a decision after observing that the college lacked adequate equipment, staff and infrastructure to run 100 BDS seats.

In addition to the BDS seats, the Apex Dental Commission also recommended reducing the PG dental seats. The Council has recommended the Union Health Ministry to reduce the number of PG dental chairs in 7 branches by one seat.

One of the oldest dental schools in Southeast Asia RADCH is a government dental school located in Sealdah, kolkata6a. It is affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences. In addition to BDS courses, the school also offers an MDS course in oral and maxillofacial surgery, conservative dentistry and endodontics.

The number of BDS seats for the Faculty of Dentistry was increased from 50 to 100 in 2007. In addition to the 100 regular seats, 25 seats were added for students of the EWS category. It currently offers the MDS course in 33 locations.
