A drunk driver of a road bus carrying 42 passengers abandoned the vehicle on the Agra-Delhi highway while traveling from Agra to Mathura.
Passengers tried to call UPSRTC officials, but to no avail. Then one of the passengers, Kapil, a 40-year-old computer science graduate, got behind the wheel and drove the bus for over 40 km, bringing it safely to Mathura.
UPSRTC Regional Manager Vice President Agarwal said, “The incident took place on Thursday. The driver has been removed. A notice has been issued to the private contractor who owns the bus. Further action will be taken based on the investigation."
Mathura depot station manager Sanjeev Sharma said, “The bus was under contract with UPSRTC. The owner changed the driver without any prior information. The contract with the bus will be cancelled."
