The West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday saw a massive uproar by the BJP MLAs against Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay over his comments on tribals and the Gorkha community. As per reports, Chattopadhyay called the tribal 'migrants' and Gorkha an 'influx'. he made these comments during the proposal of the 'anti-Bang-Bhang' proposal. It was tabled and passed by the assembly on Monday but BJP called it a political stunt.
BJP raised slogans demanding the resignation of Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay. State BJP General Secretary and MLA Agnimitra Paul said that the prominent leaders of Trinamool have become completely uncontrollable. They do not know what they are saying and where they are speaking. How languages have been used by them (TMC) within the House are unconstitutional and undemocratic.
On the other hand, BJP Deputy Leader Manoj Tigga said that Minister Chattopadhyay is a senior leader but the way he has insulted the tribals and the Gorkha community, the Trinamool will have to suffer. He said that we will take this movement not only in the assembly but also on the road. Tigga also demanded Sobhandeb's resignation.
In his defense, the Bengal minister said, "I have not done any such thing that will hurt any sect. I respect Gorkha and tribal society a lot. The BJP is deliberately conspiring to this."
