A senior official of Uttar Pradesh's tourism department, who resigned due to work pressure but was asked to continue, allegedly committed suicide in Mumbai on Tuesday, police said.
Vimlesh Kumar Banarasidas Auditya, deputy director of the Uttar Pradesh tourism department, jumped from the second floor of the building where he lived in the morning and sustained serious injuries, an official said. The building is located in the Tara Gagan housing society in the eastern suburbs of Tilaknagar.
The 59-year-old bureaucrat was taken to a civil hospital in Ghatkopar, where he was declared brought dead on admission, he said. His wife Rama told the police that her husband works in the Uttar Pradesh government's tourism department and is posted in Mumbai, where his office is located in the World Trade Centre, the official said.
Due to work pressure and being posted away from his home, Auditya resigned from the post of deputy director two months ago, but the Lucknow-based tourism department directorate told him to work till March 31, the official said.
According to him, a report of accidental death has been recorded. The deceased's wife told the police that she was not complaining about anyone, the official said.
