60% liquor  stores go to new entrepreneurs in UP

The first phase of the draw for liquor shops was held in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. Of the 2,247 shops involved, 60% were occupied and will be operated by new entrepreneurs and individuals in the coming fiscal year.

Giving further details, senior officials of the Excise Department said that of the total 29,522 shops that are operational in 75 districts of the state, only 2,247 have not been renewed by their existing owners and have been submitted for lottery.

As the department received a total of 15,669 applications, an average of seven traders competed against each other for each trade. The department was able to collect Rs 606 crore as license fees and Rs 51 crore as processing fees in the first phase of the lottery draw.

The next phase of the draw, in which the fate of the remaining 888 stores will be decided, is scheduled for March 18, with the third and final phase taking place on March 23.
