Holi 2023: Curbs on transport cause inconvenience to local commuters in Bengal

Holi, the festival of colors and joy, has begun in West Bengal, but with a significant inconvenience for local commuters. The state is known for its grand celebrations of Holi, which lasts for two days. However, the Indian Railways have canceled hundreds of local trains operating from Howrah and Sealdah, two major railway stations of the state, causing distress to passengers.

Normally, the Sealdah division operates 888 trains daily, but due to the holiday, 233 local trains have been canceled. The Eastern Railway's Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Manish Jain, stated that the railway authorities are undertaking some repair work in the Sealdah division, leading to the cancellation of these trains. He further assured that the situation will be normalized from March 9th.

The cancellation of trains has left the passengers stranded, especially those who depend on local trains to travel to their relatives' homes during the Holi festivities. The railways have suggested that running fewer trains will not cause any significant issue, considering the holiday period. However, passengers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the sudden cancellation of trains, causing inconvenience and delays in their travel plans.

The Howrah route has also been affected by the railway authorities' decision to cancel many local trains. As repairs are being carried out, the operation of trains has been significantly impacted. Passengers are requested to check with the railway authorities for updated schedules and plan their travel accordingly.
