UP Urban Development Department has asked 10 city corporations to accelerate their work under Smart City projects to secure budget from the Centre
The municipal corporations will have to spend a total of ₹1,568 crore, of which 50% has to be provided by the central government and the rest will be shared by the state government.
The concerned city corporations have been directed to complete their work within a year and submit proposals to obtain the remaining funds from the central government, failing which, the allocated amount may be forfeited.
The Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Department has instructed 10 city corporations, including Lucknow, to accelerate their progress in the Smart City projects to secure the necessary budget from the central government. The municipal corporations are required to spend a total of ₹1,568 crore within a year, with 50% (₹784 crore) provided by the central government and the rest shared by the state government.
In addition to expediting the ongoing projects, these city corporations have also been instructed to propose methods to obtain funds from the central government. Failure to submit proposals by June will result in the forfeiture of the allocated amount. After this period, the central government will cease to provide funds, and the state government will have to bear the remaining expenses.
The Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Department has directed the concerned city corporations to expedite the completion of the remaining work. It is important to note that the Smart City Scheme has selected 10 cities in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Moradabad, Kanpur, Saharanpur, Agra, Prayagraj, Aligarh, Jhansi, Varanasi, and Bareilly.
