Axar Patel smashed his third half-century to overtake Rohit Sharma in the most runs chart in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2022-23 on Sunday. Axar overtook Rohit to take the third spot in the most runs chart in the ongoing Test series between India and Australia. The 29-year-old achieved the feat in India's first innings in the fourth Test in Ahmedabad.
Rohit amassed 242 in six innings, with a high score of 120. Axar (264) moved past his captain in his fifth innings on Day 4 of the fourth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Australia's Usman Khawaja leads the table with 333 in seven innings, followed by India's Virat Kohli (287* in six innings).
Australia won the toss and opted to bat in the fourth Test. Usman Khawaja's fighting 180 and Cameron Green's gritty 114 powered Australia to 480. In reply, Shubman Gill smashed 128 to give India an upper hand in the match.
On Day 4, Kohli brought up his 28th Test hundred and stitched a 162-run partnership with Axar for the sixth wicket to move past Australia's 480-run total. Axar, however, missed his chance to hit a hundred as Mitchell Starc cleaned him up for 79.
