The Kolkata Railway Station serves as an international hub for two inter-dominion trains connecting Kolkata to Dhaka and Khulna. To simplify the process of obtaining visas for Bangladesh-bound trains, a Visa Information and Application Centre has been established at Kolkata Railway Station. This initiative was conceptualized under the new and innovative idea scheme.
The Visa Centre will provide passengers with visa application procedures and assistance in obtaining visas at their doorstep. This is particularly beneficial for international passengers who are looking to take the two inter-dominion trains from Kolkata. By offering these services under one roof, the Visa Centre will reduce the cumbersome process of obtaining a visa. Additionally, this initiative aims to strengthen the ties between India and Bangladesh.
A function was organized at Kolkata Station to mark the inauguration of the Visa Information and Application Centre. The event was attended by distinguished diplomats and dignitaries, including the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata and Shri Deepak Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager/Sealdah.
Aside from facilitating visa services for Indo-Bangladesh bound passengers, the innovative idea of the Visa Centre will generate significant revenue for the Railway Exchequer.
