Indian envoy discusses ties with newly sworn-in US counterpart Eric Garcetti
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said the BJP would be politically finished in the coming days, "just like the Congress", for "misusing" central agencies against opposition parties.
Yadav also sought a caste census, which he said would be a major issue in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
“Earlier Congress misused central agencies and now BJP is doing the same. The Congress is now closed. The BJP will also meet a similar fate,” he said at a press conference here. He alleged that Congress had promised to conduct a caste census during the UPA-2 regime but later "backtracked".
“We want the BJP-led central government to conduct a caste census. Several leaders demanded it. But like the Congress, the saffron party also does not want to lead him,” Yadav said.
Asked what the pattern of the proposed opposition front would be before the general elections, Yadav said it would not be disclosed. “We will not reveal the formula of the opposition front; the aim is to defeat the BJP,” he said.
