Jharkhand reports first case of H3N2, five fresh cases of Covid-19

Jharkhand has reported its first H3N2 flu case, besides five new Covid-19 cases, a health department official said on Sunday.

A 68-year-old woman, who was admitted to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), Jamshedpur on Thursday with symptoms of cold and fever, tested positive for the H3N2 flu virus on Saturday, an official said.

Confirming the report, Dr Jujhar Manjhi, East Singhbhum district civil surgeon, said the victim has been kept in the isolation ward and is being monitored. According to him, the victim had no travel history. Meanwhile, the total number of active coronavirus cases in the state has reached 10, with five new cases of the disease reported on Saturday.

Ranchi and West Singhbhum districts reported two cases each, while Deoghar recorded one case on Saturday. Earlier, Deoghar, East Singhbhum and Latehar districts reported one case each, while Ranchi had two, according to the health department's Covid bulletin.

With the addition of new cases, the number of coronavirus cases in Jharkhand has risen to 4,42,589 since the outbreak of the disease. So far, 4,37,247 people have recovered from the disease, and 5,332 people have succumbed to the disease.

Jharkhand has tested 926 samples for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said. However, a section of doctors argued that the number of cases could increase if testing were increased.
