An excise department team arrested five persons, including two elected public representatives and two women, in the Lakhisarai district on charges of consuming alcohol, an official said on Thursday.
The accused members of the public have been identified as Manohar Kumar, a ward member from Halsi block in Lakhkisarai, who organized a liquor party at his house in Halsi village, and Ashok Yadav, a panchayat secretary from Badhahiya block in the district. Kumar also invited two women who are said to be bar dancers.
Excise inspector Rakesh Kumar said, "We got a tip-off about a liquor party that took place at Manohar Kumar's house on Wednesday night. Hence, we raided and arrested them. The accused were intoxicated and were also involved in immoral activities with women. On the fifth, the accused is the domestic help of Manohar Kumar.'
All five were arrested under relevant sections of the Prohibition Act and sent to jail.
