Tensions rise between Congress and TMC over seat-sharing in upcoming assembly

Opposition unity seems to have taken a hit as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) kept its distance from the Congress party. TMC MPs staged a sit-in protest in Parliament on Wednesday over the Adani issue, demanding the central government's response on the matter and raising the slogan 'Save Democracy'.

The TMC has accused the government of destroying democracy, the constitutional order, and Parliament. However, it is noteworthy that no TMC MP was present in the meeting of like-minded opposition parties called by the Congress on the same day.

The sit-in protest by TMC MPs began in the morning in front of the Ambedkar statue in Parliament, with posters that read, 'Save Democracy, Save Constitution, Save Parliament, Save Federalism'. The MPs alleged that the Center has been destroying democracy, the Constitution, Parliament, and the federal system.

Those who joined the protest included Derek O'Brien, Kalyan Banerjee, Mala Roy, Sudip Banerjee, Jahar Sarkar, Shanta Chhetri, Sushmita Dev, Mausam Noor, and Mahua Maitra. The TMC's move comes amid rising tensions between the Congress and TMC over seat-sharing in the upcoming assembly
