Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
A woman and her three children - all below the age of 10 - were found run over by a train two kilometres from Daltonganj East Central Railways station under Dhanbad division on Wednesday.
Palam Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandan Kumar Sinha said, "Prima facie it looks like a case of suicide on the tracks."
Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman hailed from Satbarwa block and was married into a family residing in Haruhurganj block of Palamu district. "I have asked the medical board to conduct a post-mortem examination of the deceased to ascertain whether the injuries on the bodies were ante mortem. This needs to be done to rule out any foul play," he added.
Another police officer added: "The woman and children enjoyed the oranges as orange peels were found on the tracks. The woman could have used the oranges to tempt the children to stay put with her."
A railway official said the woman and children came under the wheels of the freight train between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
