In Malda's Gajol, a clash between the National Child Protection Commission team and the State Child Protection Commission has taken place, following the recent clash that took place in Kolkata. Reports claim that the NCPCR chairman was allegedly assaulted during his visit to the area.
During the clash, the Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Sudeshna Roy, and the National Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights Priyanka Kanungo reportedly clashed with each other at the house of a Class 6 rape victim. The situation escalated further when BJP MLA Srirupa Mitra Chowdhary and his supporters arrived on the scene. Following this, Trinamool leader of North Malda Mahila Samiti Chhanda Chowdhary and Zilla Parishad member Sagarika Sarkar also arrived at the location, leading to an altercation between BJP workers and Trinamool leaders.
As per a video that has surfaced, the clash resulted in the thrashing of sticks and shoes. The locals eventually united and chased away Sagarika and other Trinamool leaders with sticks and bamboos. Although police were present at the location, they seemed unable to handle the situation. However, the local police have claimed that the confrontation could have been avoided due to their intervention.
During the altercation, Kanungo attempted to enter the victim's house, but Roy and the representatives of the State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights also arrived at the scene. It is alleged that Kanungo asked them to leave, while stating that if she had come to the location, then why were they coming to the girl's house. Kanungo also questioned their whereabouts during the last ten days.
