New guidelines for teacher recruitment in Bihar will be approved soon and appointments will follow
Merit list will be based on qualification and TET results, and recruitment will be done centrally at the district level to avoid irregularities
1.5 lakh teachers will be appointed from +2 to primary schools, with measures to speed up appointments and ensure regular school activities
New guidelines for the recruitment of teachers in Bihar are likely to be approved by the government within a month and appointments will follow soon after, Education Minister Chandrashekhar announced.
In a reply to the Bihar STET Working Committee's tweet on Friday, the minister claimed that the recruitment of teachers in the 7th phase will be held soon as the current year 2023 is the "year of recruitment". No teacher aspirant need to worry now as the new appointment guidelines will be finalized within a month, he said.
He further pointed out that the merit list will be prepared on the basis of qualification and TET results under the able guidance of the district administration.
To facilitate smooth appointment of teachers, the number of recruitment units has been reduced from 9,000 to just 38.
Earlier the recruitment of teachers was done at panchayat, block and district level (called units) but now it would be done in a centralized way only at the district level. The minister claimed that there would therefore be no irregularities in the recruitments.
Sources said that under the revised guidelines, about 1.5 lakh teachers from primary to +2 are likely to be appointed in the seventh phase. Most likely recruitment would start from +2 schools to primary schools. All the 9,362 higher secondary schools in the state are facing an acute shortage of subject teachers and hence these schools should be appointed first to ensure their regular school activities.
TET Teachers Association president Amit Vikram said the draft teacher recruitment guidelines finalized by the education department must be uploaded in the public domain to invite suggestions or comments from all stakeholders.
He said that reliable measures should be taken to speed up the appointment of teachers to all vacant posts so that students do not suffer from shortage of teachers in schools.
