Roopa Ganguly arrested during protest of student's death in Bansdroni, gets bail
West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has accused the Central government of playing the dangerous "fire of the NRC card" once again.
Banerjee claims that a letter has been received indicating that those without Aadhaar cards will be targeted for scrutiny. She alleges that an Under Secretary of the Central Government has asked for a list of individuals with illegal Aadhaar cards from several areas across West Bengal, including Kolkata and South 24 Parganas.
Banerjee has voiced her concern that this move is a deliberate attempt to incite communalism before the upcoming elections. She points to a similar situation in 2014 when the Centre had used the NRC card to stoke fears and create divisions within communities.
Critics argue that the government's actions could potentially lead to the marginalization and exclusion of certain groups. Banerjee has vowed to oppose any such efforts and called on the Centre to respect the principles of democracy and secularism.
