Death count rises to 288 in Odisha train tragedy, 803 remain injured
A gang of armed criminals looted Rs 22 lakhs from the staff of an Odisha-based trader under the Majhgaon thana area in the West Singhbhum district about 180 km away from here on Sunday evening.
The incident took place near Khairpal-Sadamsai Chowk under the Majhgaon thana area through which the manager of a private firm belonging to Sunil Sultania was travelling in a Scorpio.
According to police, the manager Yogendra Kamila was returning to Roruan in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district in the SUV having collected money from a trader in Jayantgarh in West Singhbhum.
“As the SUV was negotiating the Khairpal-Sadamsai Chowk, four criminals who were already present at the crossing intercepted the vehicle and forced the manager and the vehicle driver to come out of it at gunpoint. The looters had subsequently fled the scene with the vehicle, ” said a police officer while talking to the media.
Soon after the incident, the victim informed the Majhgaon police, leading a police party to swing into action. After a thorough search operation in the area, the police found a Scorpio in abandoned condition at Kumardubi thana area in West Singhbhum itself.
According to police, the search operations in West Singhbhum and the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan, as well as East Singhbhum district, is on.
