In another tragic incident, a coaching student committed suicide in Rajasthan's Kota district on Wednesday. The student was staying in a hostel in the city's Kunhari area, police said.
The deceased was identified as Aryan. He was a resident of Bihar and attended coaching courses in the city. According to Kunhari police station officials, the matter is being investigated.
At the beginning of the week, three students aged 17, 18 and 19 died by suicide in two separate cases in Kota. They were all enrolled in the Allen Career Institute and were preparing for various competitive exams.
Two of them, identified as Ankush Anand, 19, and Ujjwal Kumar, 18, hailing from Bihar, were found hanging from a ceiling fan in their accommodation.
17-year-old Pranav Verma, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was the third teenager who reportedly died after ingesting the poisonous substance. Ankush Anand and Pranav were taking coaching classes for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) to get admitted to undergraduate medical courses, while Ujjwal Kumar was preparing for the Common Entrance Test to join technical colleges.
A high suicide rate is a common occurrence in the coaching town of Kota, which is a hub for institutions that prepare students for entrance exams for medical and engineering courses. These students are generally under pressure to perform consistently to pass entrance tests and often fail them.
