When security forces intercepted a Maruti Alto car at the new Checkon in Manipur's Senapati district, a cache of arms and ammunition was found and three miscreants were arrested.

In a major bid to thwart the plans of the goons, security forces recovered one Insas rifle with a magazine, sixty rounds of 5.56 mm, one Chinese hand grenade and one detonator and three persons were arrested as security forces intercepted the vehicle on Sunday evening, officials said on Monday.

Acting on information received from sources that criminals have ventured into the area with the intention of carrying out an attack on City Convention Centre, Imphal East District, security forces have mobilized three convoys to set up several Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCPs).

The vehicle was intercepted at one of the checkpoints on Sunday at 19:30. After stopping, the miscreants got out of the car and tried to flee inside the colony. However, all three miscreants were apprehended by emergency units on the ground. It is believed that the suspects were trying to add fuel to the ongoing cycle of violence in Manipur. Timely action by law enforcement agencies prevented a major unexpected incident in the area.

All three miscreants with arms and ammunition were later handed over to the Manipur police. According to reports, more than eighty people have died in the ongoing cycle of violence in Manipur. Clashes erupted after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organized in the hill districts on May 3 to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
