In a devastating incident on Wednesday evening, seven individuals, including three children, fell victim to lightning strikes in various areas of West Bengal's Malda district. Officials confirmed that one person lost their life in Old Malda, while six others tragically died in the Kaliachak area.
The deceased have been identified as Krishna Chowdhury (65), Ummey Kulsum (06), Debosree Mandal (27), Somit Mandal (10), Nazrul SK (32), Robizon Bibi (54), and Esa Sarkar (eight), according to authorities.
District Magistrate Nitin Singhania reported that Malda was struck by heavy thunderstorms during the evening, resulting in the tragic loss of seven lives. Additionally, nine cattle were also killed as a result of the lightning strikes.
Singhania assured that the affected families were receiving necessary assistance to cope with the aftermath of this devastating event.
