The Monsoon Session of Parliament will begin on July 20 and continue till August 11, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. He urged all parties to make the session a productive one.
The Parliament is meeting at a time when the debate around the Uniform Civil Code is gaining ground in the country. This after the Prime Minister talked about the UCC at a recent function in Madhya Pradesh.
The session also gains importance as the General Elections are scheduled to be held next year, in 2024. The Opposition parties who have already held a meeting in Patna in a show of unity, will try to use the session of Parliament as yet another opportunity to display a united front and attack the government unitedly.
It is also expected that the government will bring a bill to replace the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance, during the session. This Ordinance overturned a Supreme Court judgment which had given more powers to the Delhi government as regards "services" in the National Capital Territory.
The Aam Aadmi Party has been trying to gather support from all parties to challenge this bill in the Rajya Sabha. They call it a 'black bill' which is "aimed at usurping powers of the elected Delhi government."
