Security forces on Monday foiled an infiltration bid and killed two terrorists along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
Jammu-based Defense Spokesman Lt. Col. Suneel Bartwal said a major infiltration bid was eliminated in the KrishnaGhati sector of Poonch district on the night of July 16-17 in a joint operation by the Indian Army's alert squads and the Jammu Kashmir Police.
“Movement of terrorists was observed near the Poonch River, moving across the Line of Control towards their own side. The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have deployed an anti-infiltration posture at multiple levels to prevent any terrorist from escaping,” the spokesperson said.
He stated that contact was made in the early hours of the morning, resulting in the exchange of a large amount of fire.
In the ensuing firefight, two terrorists were hit. One of the terrorists fell on the spot while the other terrorist was observed falling in the Poonch river,” he added.
Lt Col Bartwal said that in a deliberate and massive search operation, the body of one terrorist was recovered from the spot.
Large war stocks were found, including one AK-74 rifle with a magazine, eleven rounds of ammunition and other subsistence supplies, he added.
He further said, “Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police's quick action foiled a major infiltration bid aimed at disrupting peace in Poonch district.
"Security forces remain on the alert on the Line of Control and are fully prepared to thwart similar attempts in the future," said PRO.
