Asia Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma completes 200 international catches

In a display of exceptional fielding prowess, India's cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, showcased his remarkable catching abilities during the ongoing Super 4 clash of the Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh. Rohit's safe pair of hands once again left cricket enthusiasts in awe as he took a stunning catch to dismiss Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

The breathtaking catch occurred in the 14th over while Rohit was fielding at first slip. Axar Patel bowled a slightly short ball just outside the off-stump, inducing it to turn away from the left-handed Miraz. Miraz attempted to play the ball but ended up with a thick outside-edge. The ball flew towards Rohit's right-hand side, but with a dive, he managed to snatch it just inches above the ground.

This remarkable catch marked Rohit's 200th catch in international cricket, making him only the fifth active player to achieve the feat. He now stands as the fifth active player to achieve this feat. Among active players, Virat Kohli leads the list with 303 international catches, followed by Steve Smith (288), Joe Root (280), David Warner (203), and Rohit Sharma.

On the overall list of most international catches, Rohit currently holds the 35th position. Mahela Jayawardene tops this list with 440 catches from 652 matches. Virat Kohli, the highest-ranked active player, stands at the 7th position.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz's dismissal left Bangladesh struggling at 59 for 4 in 14 overs. However, the team received some respite as captain Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy joined forces, forging a crucial fifth-wicket partnership that has crossed the 50-run mark.

India won the toss and chose to bowl first at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Having already secured a spot in the final, India made five changes to their playing XI for this match. On the other hand, Bangladesh, who were eliminated from the tournament following India's win over Sri Lanka, are playing their final match in the competition.
