Calcutta HC questions CBI's decision to close probe against Trinamool MLA Manik Bhattacharya

The Calcutta High Court expressed its strong displeasure on Monday regarding the automatic closure of the investigation against Trinamool MLA and Primary Education Council Chairman Manik Bhattacharya in the teacher appointment corruption case. Manik Bhattacharya, who was arrested in connection with this case, was accused of tampering with the answer sheets of candidates involved in the Primary Teacher Eligibility Test of 2014. The case had garnered significant attention due to the alleged widespread tampering of more than 33,000 candidates' OMR sheets.

Justice Abhijit Ganguly questioned why the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had closed the investigation against Manik Bhattacharya. He emphasized that no ongoing investigations were being conducted in this matter. In response, the CBI advocate mentioned that the Supreme Court had restrained the agency from taking strict action against Manik Bhattacharya.

Justice Ganguly pointed out that while there might be restrictions on taking stringent action, the fact that Manik Bhattacharya was in custody presented an opportunity for interrogation. He questioned why this avenue had also been closed.

This development highlights the concerns and questions raised by the court regarding the closure of the investigation against Manik Bhattacharya in the teacher appointment corruption case.
